Further information on all materials is provided below this dropdown menu, but we’d like to take a moment to describe Wind Wall Technology in more depth, as it’s often misunderstood.

When looking inside a Mammoth jacket, it may appear half-lined, and at first glance, it might seem that the lining is upside down! In reality, you are seeing three layers of wool, each with a specific function. To explain this more simply: imagine a mighty oak table. Place a heavy, durable woolen cloth over the table, followed by a lighter but densely woven woolen cloth, and finally, a second layer of heavy woolen cloth. Sew all of that into a jacket, leaving the sleeves free from the third and final layer, and you have our Mammoth. Combined in this way, the Mammoth features a hidden front cape and a full double-paneled back, making it significantly more wind-resistant and warm compared to many other jackets on the market, even at a similar weight.

We are one of the few companies (and perhaps among the first, though, who’s to say) to line a wool jacket with more wool instead of polyester, cotton, rayon, or other materials. Our reason for doing this is to use the lining as an additional layer of insulation, not just as a buffer between your skin and the rougher outer wool. The outer wool layer is designed to shield you from wind, rain, branches, and more. The lining serves to further block the wind and add warmth (with finer fibers providing an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio), and the third inner wool layer acts solely as an additional insulating barrier.

We believe we’re the only ones to layer a wool jacket this way. Traditionally, a wool cape or double layer of wool is placed on the outside of the jacket, leaving it unlined (see our Leaf Line Mammoth). There’s nothing wrong with constructing a wool jacket like that—we’re doing it ourselves with other designs. However, Wind Wall Technology makes a wool jacket more efficient, warmer, and more comfortable, all at once.
