Sale price $320.00

RELEASING APRIL 15th at 8pm EDT for Pre-Order. Estimated ship date is 06/01/26.

Special delivery! In collaboration with the good folks at Unbleached Apparel, we’re releasing a special FoxFibre® iteration of the Prologue—alongside two versions of the Chapter 1s and another of the Prologue. A lot, I suppose.

This is a mid-weight selvedge twill fabric woven at a high density (9oz). While lighter weight, it has a good rigidity to it and holds its shape well. It feels more like a 12oz denim.

What’s special? The FoxFibre® itself! Developed over decades by Sally Fox, it’s the first naturally colored organic cotton that requires no dyes and is strong enough to be spun on conventional machinery. Before Sally, colored cottons (greens, browns, reds, etc.) were too short to spin—your only option was cream. Now look at us.

The FoxFibre® pieces are made in collaboration with Unbleached Apparel, a brand that uses no dyes or bleaches. It was only right that they threw these rolls of denim in front of us like a sack of gold.

Note: this listing will mainly be talking about FoxFibre® for more details on the Prologue's construction and fit, please check out The Prologue in Organic Snail Denim.

The Tale

Each and every piece made by The Iron Snail comes with its own tale, henceThe Tale of The Iron Snail. The Prologue is where it all began for us, and not coincidentally, the story. Your Prologue will come with a small booklet — contained in the booklet is, of course,The Prologue, but also, a care guide on how to best treat your denim.

FoxFibre™

Sally Fox is the first person on Snail HQ that has a full Wikipedia page about them. In it, they say: “Fox has been called a ‘cotton pioneer’ for her efforts regarding organic, colored cotton and heirloom wheat.” While these pants are not made of heirloom wheat, they are sorta wheat colored.

Sally has fought hard to keep her work growing and thriving. Farmers feared her crops would contaminate theirs and forced her to relocate around the country multiple times. Her business took a severe hit in the 90s with increased globalization, her biggest clients shifted towards international markets, but Sally pressed forward! Now her fiber is in extremely high demand.

As the industry races for more sustainable practices, Sally can be looked at as someone who was extremely far ahead of the pack, and still is. She grows all of her cotton without pesticides and has worked tirelessly to get this colored cotton into a spinnable form.

The Denim

This Prologue is made from a 9oz FoxFibre™ twill made in Japan by a mill that specializes in Sally’s fiber. Due to the nature of her fibers, it takes a certain amount of experience to make sure it comes out just right. It's still quite difficult to spin.

As previously stated, this twill has a wonderful rigidity and crispness to it. Don't let the weight fool you, it packs a good bit of punch into those 9 ounces. Over time, it'll soften even more, lighten, and mold to your body beautifully. The FoxFibre™ is flecked with dark colored neps throughout.

Note: nothing is stopping you from calling this a denim. We chose to call it by it's weave as it doesn't feel quite like a conventional "denim".

The Leather Patch

At the request of Mr. Harker, our patchmaker, these patches are made from Badalassi Carlo leather, specifically Cognac Pueblo.

In his words:

"I figured a special fiber needed a special leather, it's got a LOT of character and ages really well. Feels nice in hand, smells great, looks great. They texturize the surface in the tannery and then on top of that the leather gets a lot of beautiful natural variation."

Mr. Harker was on the case for our patches for the first time this year and we did some overhauling. We rounded the corners to protect them from bending, added stitch channels to protect the sewing, and made it a point to find leathers that could hold up a little better to modern washing.

Now With Wings

Okay, I know I said all the constuction details would be on the Snail Denim Prologue, but I can't help myself!! Sue me!! The typical "v-darts" you'd see on a Type III denim jacket are awesome, and quite iconic. However, as shown by jackets throughout the years, you can construct them a little different and get a great little bonus.

Instead of using a typical felled seam construction, our "darts" are "pinched-and-sewn" for lack of a better way to describe this. The chest pockets lock the sewing down and make sure they lay flat when not under tension. However, when under tension, those "darts" fling up like the wings of a dragonfly and give you a little bit more room to play.

I've been calling them wings. You don't have to call them that, don't worry.
