RELEASING APRIL 15th at 8pm EDT for Pre-Order. Estimated ship date is 06/01/26.

Special delivery! In collaboration with the good folks at Unbleached Apparel, we’re releasing a special FoxFibre® iteration of the Chapter 1 jeans—alongside two versions of the Chapter 1s and two of the Prologue. A lot, I suppose.

This is a 13oz Organic FoxFibre ® denim from Japan, with a beautiful drape and a pretty darn soft hand.

What’s special? The FoxFibre® itself! Developed over decades by Sally Fox, it’s the first naturally colored organic cotton that requires no dyes and is strong enough to be spun on conventional machinery. Before Sally, colored cottons (greens, browns, reds, etc.) were too short to spin—your only option was cream. Now look at us.

The FoxFibre® pieces are made in collaboration with Unbleached Apparel, a brand that uses no dyes or bleaches. It was only right that they threw these rolls of denim in front of us like a sack of gold.

These jeans will fade uniquely to your body and only get better over time. The FoxFibre® will lighten, hems will fray, and the Chapter 1s will become a piece of art.

As always, check our sizing guide—these will shrink around 1–2% after the first wash and line dry, then stretch back at points of stress. We’ve added ~0.5" extra length to account for this.

The Tale

Each and every piece made by The Iron Snail comes with its own tale, hence The Tale of The Iron Snail. Chapter 1, of course, is where it all begins—preceded only by our Prologue Denim Jacket. Your Chapter 1s will come with a small booklet — contained in the booklet is, of course, Chapter 1, but also, a care guide on how to best treat your jeans.

FoxFibre™

Sally Fox is the first person on Snail HQ that has a full Wikipedia page about them. In it, they say: “Fox has been called a ‘cotton pioneer’ for her efforts regarding organic, colored cotton and heirloom wheat.” While these pants are not made of heirloom wheat, they are sorta wheat colored.

Sally has fought hard to keep her work growing and thriving. Farmers feared her crops would contaminate theirs and forced her to relocate around the country multiple times. Her business took a severe hit in the 90s with increased globalization, her biggest clients shifted towards international markets, but Sally pressed forward! Now her fiber is in extremely high demand.

As the industry races for more sustainable practices, Sally can be looked at as someone who was extremely far ahead of the pack, and still is. She grows all of her cotton without pesticides and has worked tirelessly to get this colored cotton into a spinnable form.

The Denim

The Chapter 1 jeans use a 13oz FoxFibre™ denim made in Japan by a mill that specializes in Sally’s fiber. Due to the nature of her fibers, it takes a certain amount of experience to make sure it comes out just right. It's still quite difficult to spin.

As previously stated, this denim has a wonderful drape and hand feel to it. Over time, it'll soften even more, lighten, and mold to your body beautifully. The FoxFibre™ is flecked with dark colored neps throughout.

The Leather Patch

At the request of Mr. Harker, our patchmaker, these patches are made from Badalassi Carlo leather, specifically Cognac Pueblo.

In his words:

"I figured a special fiber needed a special leather, it's got a LOT of character and ages really well. Feels nice in hand, smells great, looks great. They texturize the surface in the tannery and then on top of that the leather gets a lot of beautiful natural variation."

Mr. Harker was on the case for our patches for the first time this year and we did some overhauling. We rounded the corners to protect them from bending, added stitch channels to protect the sewing, and made it a point to find leathers that could hold up a little better to modern washing.

The Back Pocket Embroidery

First started in the 1800s by a brand that rhymes with “wee thighs,” a unique back pocket embroidery is a must for a pair of jeans.

We opted for a tonal thread for this batch to keep things subtle. This year, we are debuting our Snail Pennant Flag.

Pennant flags originated in medieval Europe as triangular heraldic markers for knights, evolving into vital naval signal flags by the 17th century. By the early 1900s, they became popular felt souvenirs for sports teams, universities, and tourism, used to display team spirit and commemorate travel.
