Stocking later this week (10/31)!

"What has it got in its nasty little pocketses?"

Your date may ask you this if they spot your Dinghy Skipper while out to dinner. “Behold,” you may say to your date, “the wallet to rule them all!”

Our Dinghy Skipper_01 is our first hand-sewn bi-fold. Inspired by the wonderful pleasure of holding an unopened chocolate bar in your hands. There is something about a softly rounded rectangular object that just feels so right. It has to be something evolutionary, right? The basis for all tools? Who knows. Not the right time for a philosophical discussion. We spent an obnoxiously long time designing this bi-fold: the subtly sloped pockets for easy card reach, its height in relation to credit cards, it’s thickness to feel substantial but not over the top, a lightly matted and textured leather (to match a fancy chocolate bar), and a higher amount of stitches per inch just to brag about how talented Bronson (the leather maker of your piece) is. A wallet says a lot about a person. The Dinghy Skipper says more.

The goal was a minimal and clean design with a penchant for deepening richness as time goes by. A wallet is your pocket filing cabinet. It must be beautiful, tough as nails, pleasing to the eye, and a blank canvas for your pocketed journeys. Finally, we must assume this is your last wallet and that you never wish to search for a wallet again. While we’ve already handled the quality of materials section of this piece, we must also handle repairs. All Dinghy Skippers come with a Lifetime Stitch Guarantee; that is, if a stitch fails, we’ll fix it. If there is a catastrophic failure due to your wild habits, give us an email; it couldn’t hurt. Now, load up your Dinghy Skipper, let it come to life, and get to breaking it in. Mine started looking cooler after I fell into a lake.

What is our Primordial Line?

You’re currently viewing our Primordial line of accessories. This collection features more premium materials, details, and features that far exceed the quality of standard pieces. In this case, it's best seen through the level of craftsmanship Bronson is performing. The labor-intensive 9 SPI, the creases along the edges, the lined backing, and the hand burnishing all come together to make one lean, mean, money-holding machine.

Ride, Cowboy!

Our chestnut Dinghy Skipper is an “English” bridle leather from the legendary, Pennsylvania-based, Wickett & Craig. Originally made for horse riding, bridle leather is hot stuffed with waxes and gum pasted on the flesh side. The waxes give the leather a dense, “saturated” feel, and the gum paste smooths the flesh side of the leather to a waxy and smooth texture, originally for the comfort of the horses that bore it.

Our russet Dinghy Skipper is crafted from Wickett & Craig’s skirting leather. Traditionally used for saddles, holsters, and sheaths, skirting leather goes without the hot stuffing of waxes and gum pasted flesh side. Instead, it feels firm in temper yet oddly soft. As if there were imperceptible fibers creating a gap between your hands and the leather itself. Russet just so happens to be my favorite leather for the way it ages. Wickett & Craig exclusively vegetable tans their leather using tannins derived from tree bark, rather than using chromium salts or other toxic tanning chemicals. They’ve been audited by the Leather Working Group and are transparent about their usage of leather from hide to end product. They are considered to be one of the best tanneries on the planet.

General care advice: let your butt and hands do the work. Your handling of the wallets will keep the leather moisturized, the sun will darken it, your butt will break it in, etc. Little care is the best care. (If there is an extreme soaking event, we would recommend a small amount of leather conditioner.)

The Quickdraw.

A necessity! In fact, probably the most used pocket on our wallet by a factor of ten. The quickdraw pocket is simple. Load in your most used card and get to using your wallet. Pull out that ID without looking and keep the wallet closed. “Wow, that person handed me their ID so promptly.” That’s what everyone is going to say about you now. Alternatively, you can put your favorite shiny metal credit card there.

A Lay of The Land.

Five card pockets (each meant for a solo card, but they can be double-stuffed in emergencies or necessities), and two cash pockets. We’re terrible at estimating, but if we had to guess, the Dinghy Skipper can accommodate monetary sums up to fifteen trillion dollars, depending on your credit limit and bill denominations.

Burnished & Stitched.

Handstitched by our dear friend, Bronson Lott, we opted for a higher stitch count than what is typically found on a handstitched wallet.

Our goal was to balance a demonstration of patience, attention to detail, and fine craftsmanship with strength and durability. In the same ethos, Bronson burnishes all Dinghy Skippers himself to his exacting specifications. Look at that brilliant edge shine! Bronson, you’re a fiend!

All Dinghy Skippers come with a lifetime stitch guarantee.
